A site visit for the Community Project under the UniMADANI 2025 Community Empowerment Programme titled "Smart AquaFarm Kampung Belimbing Dalam, Durian Tunggal: IoT Innovation for Sustainable Freshwater Fish Farming" successfully took place in Kampung Belimbing Dalam, Durian Tunggal, Melaka on December 23, 2025. The visit was organized in collaboration with the UTeM-Melaka RICE Collaboration Management Centre (RICE) and was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of UTeM, researchers, and university officers.

The Smart AquaFarm project is led by Ts. Dr. Nur Fatihah Binti Azmi from the Faculty of Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology (FTKEK), focusing on the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology for real-time water quality monitoring, including parameters such as temperature, pH, TDS, and water levels. This system helps farmers reduce reliance on manual monitoring while boosting management efficiency for freshwater fish ponds, particularly for catfish and red tilapia.

The UTeM-Melaka RICE Collaboration Management Centre (RICE), in collaboration with FTMK and FTKE, organized the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Knowledge Sharing and Transfer Programme (KSTP): Digital Workshop@UTeM & UTeM STEM Centre Roadshow at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) (P) Methodist 2, Melaka.

The programme welcomed 45 workshop participants from around Melaka State and reached an exhibition audience of 511 students from SK(P) Methodist 2, Melaka, with the aim of exposing school students to digital technologies based on generative AI applications, microcontrollers, digital gaming, and robotics. Knowledge transfer was delivered by 12 university lecturers, with Ts. Dr. Nur Rashid bin Mat Nuri @ Md Din, Performing the Functions of Director of RICE, also in attendance.

A benchmarking visit to UniMAP provided RICE staff with direct exposure to best practices in innovation management, commercialization, and industry collaboration. The delegation visited the Centre for Industry & Government Agency Collaboration (CIGC) and the Innovation & Commercialisation Centre (ICC), where operational and strategic insights added significant value to the strategic planning presented in the subsequent workshop.

The workshop continued over three days, gathering RICE leadership and staff to review overall achievements for 2025, including aspects of intellectual property, innovation, industry relations, and commercialization. Discussion sessions also examined critical challenges and necessary areas for improvement to ensure RICE's strategies remain relevant and high-impact ahead of the implementation of the UTeM Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and PSMJ 2035 aspirations.

Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), through the Collaboration Management Centre (RICE), played a role as a strategic partner collaborating in the New Generation World Innovation Challenge (NeWIC) 2025 programme, held in conjunction with the TVET Madani Carnival @ Kolej KEDA.

Serving as a co-organizing partner this time, UTeM also acted as the technical secretariat and panel of judges, helping to ensure the competition evaluation process was conducted professionally, transparently, and to a high standard. The programme gathered students and young innovators from various higher education institutions (IPTs), schools, and TVET training centers nationwide, aiming to strengthen the culture of innovation, invention, and critical thinking aligned with current industry needs.
