NEWS AND EVENT

HANDS-ON PATENT UI DRAFTING WORKSHOP

This intensive workshop is conducted by six (6) professional and certified facilitators from the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) who have extensive experience in the field of patent registration and examination. Throughout the program, participants were given comprehensive and practical exposure to the methods of preparing patent documents, starting from prior art searches, writing the background of the innovation, preparing claims, to the complete specification for filing an Innovation Utility Patent (UI).

The hands-on approach used allows participants to prepare their own patent drafts directly under the guidance of MyIPO facilitators. Individual consultation sessions also help participants understand the important elements in ensuring that an innovation meets the criteria of novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability before the filing process is carried out.

COURTESY VISIT BY THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL (MANAGEMENT) OF THE MALAYSIAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CORPORATION (MyIPO) TO THE MALAYSIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY MELAKA (UTeM)

In addition to a courtesy visit to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), the MyIPO delegation was also taken to visit the RICE UTeM Melaka Collaboration Management Center Gallery, which showcases various university innovations, research, and commercialization projects.

The implementation of this project also emphasizes the empowerment of the circular economy at the community level by providing opportunities for additional income generation thru the production of portable furniture and souvenirs from used plastic. The location of Kampung Bukit Pulau, which is near the city center of Melaka, makes it susceptible to the issue of plastic waste accumulation.
